When you think of a St. Louis boutique, some things are bound to come to mind: beautifully decorated interiors often missing from chain retail stores, one-of-a-kind clothing finds, and a specialty location you go out of your way to visit. Can you imagine shopping at a boutique with gorgeous chandeliers and stellar displays amongst unique clothing and accessories at your most frequented shopping location? Well, dream no more. Apricot Lane in the Galleria has brought their customers boutique chic with an extremely convenient location. Finally!
I sat down with Apricot Lane’s Lead Stylist and Director of Social Media Robert to talk all about the spring trends they’re looking forward to the most and why Apricot Lane is the place to shop for both mom and daughter.
Crown Vision Center: When did the store open?
Apricot Lane: It opened on March 3rd, two years ago.
Why did you choose the Galleria for your location?
There’s not a boutique here in the mall, and we feel that we can fill that void with the small boutique feel and great personal service our customers have come to expect from a boutique.
Multicolored floral dress, gold earrings, blue and gold jeweled bracelet, and nude wedges available at Apricot Lane. Michael Kors MKS240 sunglasses in tortoise and Prada PR50OS sunglasses in gold available at Crown Vision Center locations; call for availability.
Has that decision worked out well for Apricot Lane?
Yeah! We get better foot traffic than we would if we were a free standing store. There’s a little more competition with some of the lines we carry because of the Nordstrom B.P. department and Macy’s sometimes carries Jack and B.B. Dakota (some of the lines we carry), but we can offer more personalized service.
What sets your boutique apart from others in St. Louis?
I think our price point is significantly better than a lot of other boutiques, while still carrying similar brands. Also the convenience of where we’re located. You can go to a mall and shop other places if you want to, and you don’t have to go out of your way just to shop at our store. We also cater to both mom and daughter, and I feel like a lot of other boutiques cater to either the mother or the daughter and not to both. So that definitely sets us apart.
Green eyelet shorts, sheer white button-up tank top with white undershirt, assorted enamel bracelets, teal and gold jeweled necklace, and nude wedges available at Apricot Lane. Tom Ford Malin sunglasses in Purple and Coach 7001 aviator in gold available at Crown Vision Center locations; call for availability.
Who’s your typical shopper?
We actually have a wide array of shoppers because our buyers’ ages range so much. We have the 24 or 25 year old buyer, and then we also have the 43 year old buyer. A mother and a daughter could both shop here at the same time. Mom could find a tunic or casual dress for a wedding, and her daughter could find her homecoming dress or spring formal dress. Even everyday items too: lace shorts, simple tops, camisoles, stuff like that. You can get your basics here, and it’s a great spot for accessories.
What spring trends are you most excited about?
There are so many. Floral dresses, watercolor and mirror-imaged prints are going to be huge for spring, and I think they’re awesome. We have some right now, and we have more coming. I also really like crochet, both in general and as cutouts, I think that’s really cute.
Pink dress with crochet cutout, blue and gold jeweled necklace, and teardrop ring available at Apricot Lane. Nude wedges available at Steve Madden. Tiffany & Co. TF4060B round sunglasses in black and Tiffany blue and Coach 8011B Reese sunglasses in white available at Crown Vision Center locations; call for availability.
I love lace shorts, and we have a wide range of high waist shorts that I love too. I think accenting the empire waist on a girl is the most flattering, and we have a lot of dresses in the store that have empire waists and empire cutouts that are extremely flattering. I love open backs, they’re going to be huge for spring. Also high low tops. High low dresses were big last spring and we have a lot of high low tops now with little train accents that are really cute and different.
What about spring trends for accessories?
For spring I’m loving chunky, exaggerated bangles, and statement necklaces are always great. I just love bright, boldly colored things, especially popping colors together. For example, I love a good coral against a light lilac. I like extreme differences in color variations when using accessories.
Navy, red, white and teal maxi dress, long cube necklace in teal and gold, and assorted gold bangles available at Apricot Lane. Tory Burch 7004 color blocked sunglasses and Prada PR04PS sunglasses in black available at Crown Vision Center locations; call for availability.
Do you think accessories are a good way to ease into a trend?
Absolutely! If you want to be bold, and you don’t want to wear a really bold print or a bold cut you could always do a bold jewelry item like earrings or a big statement ring.
What is your favorite thing to do in St. Louis in the spring?
Walking in Forest Park. I know it sounds so boring, but I just love it.
White skinny trousers, tulip blouse in red, orange and pink, sherbet and gold tiered earrings, and pink chevron watch available at Apricot Lane. Nude wedges available at Steve Madden. Dolce & Gabbana DG4149 sunglasses in pink and Ray-Ban RB2132 New Wayfarers in Tortoise available at Crown Vision Center locations; call for availability.
